Keep wanting to get a nice sunrise, but not much luck so far. We were up early today, in order to get fuel at 7am and head out for a long day, with several bridge openings we would have to wait for.
The weather was better today - still windy, but not so cold and we haven't seen any rain yet. We had about a 20 minute wait at the first bridge - there were about 8 boats lined up waiting. It had 22 ft clearance, which is right at our limit, so we decided to be patient.
You ever wonder what holds these bridges up?
Fairly typical scenery most of today - lots of houses on the western shores, and marsh on the ocean side. Every once in a while, you see something just a bit odd.
While waiting for another bridge opening, we saw some action ahead. As we came through the bridge, we saw the Navy (oops, I think these are the Marines - sorry, Pat!) getting ready for a field exercise. The guys smiled and waved as we went by.
A voice came over the radio and suggested the boats heading North might want to speed up, as the Navy was about to commence firing live ammo.
Fortunately, the lights started flashing as we were leaving the training area. We heard them on the radio telling boats behind us to drop anchor for an hour or so (presumably, before they entered the hot zone!)
Things soon returned to normal.
We entered Morehead City. Our Marina was just around the corner from a fairly large shipyard. Always lots of interesting stuff to look at when the marinas are in the industrial section of town.
