It was too hazy for good photos, but we got excited when we saw the Statue of Liberty:
The Waterway Guide warns recreational boaters about barges, large ships, and the ferries. While we saw several, it was not nearly as crowded as we had expected.
And, another shot of the Lady with the Light (which is actually a gold-painted torch)...
We headed up the East River. Took lots of photos of Manhatten and the bridges - here's a sampling:
This was definitely a highlight day in our journey. Especially for Lou, since he grew up Brooklyn.
We continued through Long Island Sound, and motored on to Norwalk, Connecticut. The starboard engine throttle cable broke as we entered the Sound, but Capt Mike was able to get it back together until we reached Norwalk Cove Marina - where we bought a new one. It was HOT when we arrived in the afternoon - turns out they had record temperatures for May.
It is still eerie looking at the NY skyline with the trade center missing.

Cath and I were somewhere along that waterfront during our trip to NY. Were you guys really that close or do you have a really good zoom on your camera? Great pics!
ReplyDeleteWe were close - I had to use more "zoom" to get the Statue of Liberty photos (we didn't think of going closer til after we'd passed it), but the others were taken with a 24-105mm lens (which is not a large amount of zoom). It was pretty awesome.
